Roan Mountain Tennessee is located just minutes from the North Carolina border, an area in the Blue Ridge Mountains well known for the outdoors and its beautiful golf courses. Playing a round of golf in East Tennessee is a great way to get outside and enjoy the beautiful mountain weather and surroundings. There are several public golf courses just a short drive away from Cherokee Path Cabin’s East Tennessee Vacation Rentals. Many of these are nationally recognized golf courses, several of which are located in Western North Carolina, just across the border from Roan Mountain. A few private courses such as Elk River, Diamond Creek, Grandfather Mountain and Linville Ridge offer membership and guest only tee times; if you get the chance to play at one of these phenomenal courses, do not pass it up! The public courses in the area are wonderful places to play, and definitely challenging even for the most avid of golfers.

In East Tennessee, you can enjoy playing a round at the tremendously popular, Pine Oaks Golf Club in Johnson City Tennessee. This 6,224 yard, 18-hole course is perfect for golfers of any skill level and is an average par 71. In the Elizabethton area, try to hit the greens at the Elizabethton Municipal Golf Club, which is a par 72. With its rolling terrain, large sand bunkers and numerous water hazards, this course’s layout will prove to be a notable challenge. In fact, the second hole alone on this course is a 402 yard, par 4!

Another place to enjoy playing in East Tennessee is Buffalo Valley Golf Course. This scenic course offers gorgeous long range views and has 1,000 foot elevation changes throughout the layout and design. With 6,624 yards of golfing pleasure, this par 71 course is open year around and has an outstanding pro shop and practice greens.

Sugar Mountain Golf Course in nearby Banner Elk North Carolina is a par 64, 18-hole course that will challenge even the most experienced golfer. Designed and established by Arnold Palmer and Francis Duane in 1973, Sugar Mountain Golf Course is today a well maintained and very well known course in the region.
